My Most-Used Art Supplies

Here's a list of the stuff I find myself reaching for the most!

Gouache

I don't have a preference between these brands, they all have their own advantages and disadvantages. If in doubt, choose a select few colours from each brand and see which works best for you!

Tip - A mixing colours set is always a great place to start your collection and can really fulfil all your needs if used effectively!

Watercolour

I've loved watercolours since the beginning of time and, while I occasionally dip my toe into other media, I'll never stop coming back to this old fave. I love the versatility of them, their pure co-operation use and the charming finish they give.

My current faves are the Daniel Smith paints

When I'm at home, I store and mix my watercolours in this beautiful ceramic palette, or I use this Portable Painter palette when I'm out and about!

Fine-Liners

Linework is one of the key components of my work, so a good, sturdy and versatile fine-liner is a must. Here are a couple of my favourites in no particular order;

Sketchbooks + Paper

I'm increasingly enjoying the personalised and intimate nature of making my own sketchbooks, but otherwise, I love Seawhite for value for money (and UK-made paper), Moleskine and these beautiful handmade sketchbooks on etsy

Paper-wise, I stick to either watercolour or mixed media paper, with my current most-used brands being Strathmore (for both plain and toned paper) and Hahnemühle.

Pencils

I love pencils for adding texture and a bit of extra character to my linework. A great all-rounder for me are the Polychromos pencils from Faber Castell, and Bic mechanical pencils in (0.7) for sketching.(UK link)
